Coxswain Conventional Lifeboat - Basic
The course meets the requirements of the Norwegian Oil Industry Association and STCW Table A-VI/2-1.
Once the course has been completed and the examination passed, the participants are qualified to receive a Coxswains Certificate, issued by the Norwegian Ship Contol.

ObjectiveAfter completing the course the participants should be capable of:
- Prepare the lifeboat for evacuation.
- Take care of passengers and arrange for stays on Board after evacuation.
- Organize and lead boarding.
- Maintain communication with the rescue unit.
- Lowering and releasing the lifeboat, manoeuvring and leading lifeboat operations at sea.
Course Contents
- Regulations/ lines of responsibility.
- Lifeboat and raft equipment.
- Lines of command/ cooperation.
- Organising stay in lifeboat after evacuation.
- Ship and rig launching systems.
- Life-saving first aid.
- Personal protection and safety equipment.
- Picking up people from the sea.
- Emergency communication and relevant equipment.
- Procedures/ alarm instructions.
- Practical exercises in use of the relevant type of lifeboat.
- Relevant first aid.
Prerequisites
- Offshore Basic Safety Training.
- STCW Basic Safety Training.
ExaminationWritten and oral examination.
